Do not join Urban Jungle Self Defense in the Heights!! They are dishonest at best. I started training there in July 2007. I was routinely told to "be selfish" and "quit helping" new students. Likewise, I was provided very little assistance in improving my own skills.
Tony, the owner, is impossible to hire for private classes. Instead, he gives you a run around, sending you from one employee to another and promising to "get back to you soon."
I stopped training at their gym after nine months of discouragement and frustration. Now, after months at a new gym, Urban Jungle has suddenly started charging my bank account for membership that I have asked to be closed. They are insisting that I must continue to pay them through the "term" of the contract which they seem to be prolonging indefinitely.
The one good thing I can say is that there are some genuinely nice guys who are members. However, you can find nice guys anywhere; a good instructor is much more rare. Stay away from this gym!
