SUMMARY
The managing editor publications and new media is responsible for creating stylized editorial to convey J. Ray’s brand essence and key messages to audiences through different media including brochures, the corporate intranet, website, press releases and customer focused news magazine
S/he may have significant senior and executive level interaction and will be involved in improving the company’s electronic communications. The scope of responsibilities may also include managing individual PR campaign promotions to publicize key messages and assisting with events when required to support the rest of the small, but expanding communications team.
The ideal candidate is a highly organized, creative, team player, with an outgoing personality, who is not afraid of a challenge, is proactive and willing to grow with a new team of communications professionals. S/he must be flexible to work under pressure, able to work to deadlines and above all have a sense of humor; an all-rounder who is not afraid to get their hands dirty is a must.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Editorial responsibilities for customer focused quarterly business to business news magazine. Leading editorial contribution, deciding themes, researching and writing features, news, interviews, overseeing the design and production, and growing the publication to become the leading customer newsletter in our business sector.
· Assisting regional PR groups develop their employee focused newsletters and raise the bar on content and quality.
· Work with the PR group in identifying corporate key messages and how best to communicate them to stakeholders through the written word including brochures, adverts
· Simplify the language and tone of the company’s intranet and internet to produce concise and clear content to convey key messages and company business. An overhaul of the entire site is scheduled for 2007, which will require research and refining to ensure a properly structured media. Manage overall content of the site.
· Assist with the development of a strategic editorial plan to increase J. Ray’s coverage in trade press through a combination of well written technical articles, news features, interviews and press releases.
· Speech writing for executive managers and a monthly letter from the president and COO to employees.
· Assisting with internal corporate and employee events; external charity projects and industry trade shows – may be required to work outside office hours during this time
· Play a role in the emergency response management team in the communications group.
Job Requirements:
· A bachelor’s degree, preferably in Journalism, English or Communications, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
· Ideally some knowledge of the construction / oil and gas industries.
· Strong knowledge of web based media and understanding of the power and structure of electronic communications.
· Proven ability to stylize editorial for different media and different audiences.
· Written and spoken Spanish not necessary, but a plus.
· Demonstrated ability to work with people at all levels in a unique and diverse culture.
· A motivated team-player
· Outstanding verbal and written skills in English.
· Organized and able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
· Ability to work under pressure and with strict deadlines.
· Must be culturally sensitive, and able to travel when required.
