One of my clients, the world's leading insurance broker and strategic risk advisor, is seeking a Mass Tort & Complex Liability Consultant for its Houston office (position is based in Houston but will oversee the entire southeastern part of the U.S.). Previous experience as an insurance coverage attorney is a great background for this position (though not required -- note that a J.D. is not required -- this is more of a business consultant position).







The compensation includes a base salary up to $150K plus bonus. A detailed description of the position is included below.

Mass Tort & Complex Liability Consulting Practice







Primary function



The job will require the individual to be responsible for the marketing and execution of the services described below. This will be accomplished through the development of both internal relationships with Company Client Executives and with clients directly. Responsibilities include the profitable pricing of projects and negotiation of consulting service agreement terms, as well as ensuring that engagements meet or exceed client expectations and that invoices are issued on a timely basis. An insurance coverage attorney background is helpful, but not required.







Services to be Provided/Skills Required



In this position, the individual will need the technical experience that will allow them to:







§ Act as a lead national resource retained by Company’s clients to resolve complex claim issues



§ Negotiate the resolution of difficult coverage and allocation issues (e.g., number of occurrences, , “drop down,” “stub” policies, “stacking,” lost/missing policies, interaction between claims-made and occurrence coverage, operation of SIRs and deductibles)



§ Help clients formulate demands upon carriers and assess the adequacy of counter offers, including the negotiation of retrospective premium adjustments and conversions – and elevate matters to “decision makers” at insurer organizations as needed



§ Interpret case law and conduct technology driven analysis of claim and policy data (i.e., allocation modeling)



§ Prepare environmental claim submissions using analysis of engineering figures to support insurance coverage and allocation arguments



§ Manage policy review projects to summarize how historical insurance assets will respond to current and forecasted liabilities



§ Conduct financial analysis to estimate the value of historical insurance portfolios in light of mass tort and environmental claim exposures



§ Create graphs of historical policy data depicting relevant characteristics (e.g., prior erosion, , defense obligation)



§ Manage numerous, large-scale insurer claim notification projects



§ Coordinate the activities of multiple national project teams







Knowledge:



7-10 years of relevant experience. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Licensing according to company policy or applicable law. Practice specific knowledge.
